Past Shadows

Title: Past Shadows

Medium: Inkjet Print onto Acetate.

About:

Created from a scan of an alternative photograph made through the process of combining light sensitive chemicals with wax rubbings of fossils and soil emulsions found from my local area in Bristol, this work forms a window into the soil-scape composition of Keynsham. It sparks elements of history and past life that now linger under the ground which we live on and continue to develop for the future. Using the acetate window to create shadows within space, a cave like atmosphere is created, not dissimilar to the Caves of Lascaux. The work pays tribute to the complex environmental and social history of Keynsham and brings it to the forefront of conversation in this town that is ever growing and developing. These past shadows, which now become new, encourage us to connect with our roots and learn from our ever changing environment. Bringing light to these elements of the underworld right beneath our feet, provides a sense of the greater and wider beyond that can sometimes become blurred within the narrow perspective of daily life.
